The big issue with running a video show is not knowing your audience. Unlike "normal TV," it's tough to interact with those folks. I, however, have many ways to be contacted and would love for people to introduce themselves, let me know what type of cocktails you like, what brands you enjoy and where you're located in the world (not all markets have the same products)

Hi
Hi :) This is Terry and my girlfriend, Charlie. We stumbled across your videos at Bar None Drinks. We like to try different drinks and your site has provided us several new ideas to try. We find you entertaining and informative. We thank you. :)Â Keep up the good work.
Our liquor cabinet keeps growing. We have several whiskeys (bourbons, scotches, corn and Irish) a few Vodkas and several flavored liqueurs. We also make our own infused vodkas.
My, Charlie, favorite drinks are with irish cream. Terry's favorite drinks are neat whiskys.Â
We usually have a few drinks to try out what you have been making :) on the weekends.
Thanks again for your show.
~ Terry and Charlie
Awesome
Glad you've been able to utilize some of the recipe ideas that viewers and I have come up with over the last year or so. A lot of people have been "complaining" to me about the fact that they've started spending more money on different brands, flavors and spirits :)
Â
I think I recall the video request I got from one of the folks at Bar None Drinks (or so I thought...but I thought it had a different name with that same website theme). I believe that was awhile ago though, unless they picked up a new video recently. I think I met them on twitter once.
Hi all
YS:I open new topic i didn't mession that!Sorry
Hi all
My name is Kostas(i prefer Konstantinos).I am 18years old and i finish High school.I am from Greece,my English is not so good but I have Lower.I start an experience with cocktails when i first try at my village Malibu and morello.I like it,so I buy it when I went to Athens(at my home). Then I buy Barman tools like shaker, strainer etc..And after seeing Derrick for 4 mounths at 5mins.com i decide to register here. Now in my bar at home I have:Blue Curacao,Bailey's,Amaretto,Kahlua,Malibu,Vodka,Sambuca,Midori,Frangelico,Grenadine,Menthe liquer,Peach Schnapps,Couantreu,Vanilla Vodka,Banana Liquer,Whiskey and Angostura bitters(its not a drink but still a ingredient)and I keep buying more.....(want to buy now Tequila and Grand Marnier)By the way my name at forum(Wazzaa),you may think its from Scare Movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsJLhRGPv-M and you are right! But because I didn't like Wazzup I change it a little. (^_^)
Hey hey!
Another fellow from Greece is always nice to see, glad you came over from 5min.com -- I put a lot of energy into building out video's for that site too (they don't like me using advertising from other companies so I have to strip that out of each video). I use 5min.com to find new fans :)
It's me! TacoBill!
Hi Derrick & Jennifer! It's Bill (TacoBill35), long time follower from youtube and twitter.
Â
I basically only follow and watch 2 drinking shows, yours and Zane Lamprey's Three Sheets. I'm wondering, are you guys fans of Three Sheets?Â
Â
Because of you and Zane, I've run out of counter space on my minibar and now, several bottles are forced to live on the floor. Haha
Â
Keep up the great work guys! And Jennifer's text comments in the videos are always a crack up! =D
Three Sheets
I've never seen Three Sheets, but the production quality is epic, watching it now. These guys are a little bit above anywhere I'm currently at :)
Hi!
Hey everyone, Im Marcus, or Spaz as most people call me. Probably because I have ADHD and refuse to put drugs in my system to "calm down". I found everydaydrinkers.com while looking at drinksmixer.com when I was bored at work on Friday, don't worry when its slow we're allowed to goof off and surf the net. I was hooked right off the bat because I love to mix coctails and already have the tools needed. Then of course a few of my coworkers started watching too because they like to mix as well.
Â
A little about myself, hmmm, not much to say, I live in Las Vegas, NV, honestly I do drink almost everyday, but I don't like the feeling of haveing more than a mellow buzz, so I tend to drink slowly. I started mixing coctails, but not drinking them, when I was around 15 in my grandmas pub. She wanted to make sure she taught me about bartending before she retired and sold her pub. I normaly enjoy a nice Stout or Porter, but when I have friends over I love to bust out my tools and show of my mixing/bartending skills. Its just too fun to mix a coctail and watch as people are impressed and enjoy it.
Â
Thanks Derrick for all the videos, Im sure Ill make some of the coctails Ive learned from watching your show when my friends come over to suprise them with new and exciting drinks!
Â
PS:Â The fact that you teach/show how to make the coctail, AND review it for us is too awesome. You rock!

Hi Marcus!
Hey Marcus, glad to have you on board as a viewer. I'm sure I get a lot of new viewers from drinksmixer because the views our out of control on that website, they rank #1 in google for almost everything. On some months, we get over 50,000 views through them, they embed the 5min.com "related video's" and since I'm one of the only people that submits cocktail video's to 5min.com I'm always on the recipe pages.
Â
Last month I had 1.4 million views and 95% of those where from the drinksmixer embedded video's. If I'm getting that many views through them I can only imagine how many views they're getting in total!
Â
You've got more real world experience in cocktail making than me I'm sure, so glad to have you along to double check my work :-)
Hello!
Hello all! I'm Becca from Fort Worth, TX! I just found the website a few days ago when I set off on a Google Journey to look for some cocktails for a New Year's Eve bash some friends and I are having.
Â
I love the videos and I love the drinks you make! Can't wait for all the new videos!
Awesome.
That's great, that we're able to attract new viewers via google, I put a lot of effort into getting viewers through all the other means but google just happens for "free." Best marketing system ever! ;-)
Â
Actually, I've done a lot of work to make sure the site is search engine happy, but all that effort I put in awhile ago pays off each day. Glad to have you as a viewer, hopefully we make some recipes that you'll really enjoy.
Cocktails in Cali!
Hello from California Derrick!
Â
My name's Kris, and I live in Fresno. I used to try a cocktail at a restaurant every once in awhile, but I always thought it was too much work to assemble all the necessary ingredients to make at home. I don't remember how I first came across your site, but I was instantly intrigued by your witty antics (you would be the definition of "geek chic" if there is such a term! haha j/k). I started watching your videos strictly for entertainment purposes for the first couple of weeks before I decided to dive in and start trying your tasty recipes, and let me tell you I do mean dive in! I've spent a couple hundreds of dollars on alcohol (plus shaker, strainer, jigger, etc. of course) over the last couple of months!! I basically decided to try all the liqueurs I always wanted to try, but never did (e.g., Midori, Frangelico, Sloe gin, etc.). Anyways, I hope you're proud of yourself, because you created a monster! :)
Monster
Haha, similar story here.
Â
I used not to drink at all, even during Christmas, etc. (not a single drop of wine or anything else). Had few bottles of whiskey in my bar, never opened.
Â
Yeah, of course I was partying with alcohol during my "young years", but anyway... :-)
Â
One day I decided to read about some popular cocktails (I love to read/watch shows about drugs (never ever used and won't ever do :-)), alcohol (even when was not drinking) and food.
Â
Anyway, so I found Derrick's video in some cocktails site and watched few eps, then few more and then all of them... Next week I bought strainer, Boston shaker, etc. Now, ~1 year later (or more, no idea), I have over 100 bottles of alcohol and my collection keeps growing. Not that I drink very often...
Â
When clubbing, I still prefer to have water instead of any alcohol, feels good man. And rarely drink same cocktail more than twice. I just love to discover new smells and tastes, be it food or cocktails.
Â
And now, I am awesomer :-)
Proud to be awesome.
Same here
That's funny because I don't drink that often either and I rarely ever drink when we go to a restaurant, I usually order a diet coke, iced tea or water. The only time I order a beer or whatnot is when I go out with folks I've not seen in awhile and they order something.
Â
I don't often order cocktails unless they are known for a specific cocktail because I know I can make them better at home for a quarter of the price. The only place I'll drink a cocktail, typically, is a chinese food restaurant (ordering something crazy like a Zombie, suffering bastard, etc) or at the steak house I often times will get a Margarita.
Â
Of course, people come over and are like "you're a total alcoholic!" and I have to explain that alcoholics wouldn't have alcohol in the house... they'd drink it. If I was an alcoholic you'd have empty bottles, not full ones all over the place!
Â
And, yes, it's been just over 1-year.
be honest
hey, be honest Derrick, I'm sure there is intense rotation going in your collection, and empty bottles get replaced by full ones all the time ;)
Â
as for me, I came here because I wanted to see how to make a cocktail. I knew recipes, had some equipment etc., but wasn't sure if I make it all "right". So I started browsing internet for good shows. Derrick's caught my attention because it offered something more than only recipes.
Â
just curious, how many cocktails do you people drink per week on average?
Alcohol Consumption
I consider myself a moderate drinker. Before I found Derrick's show I didn't drink at all. Now I enjoy a drink once in a while. I often make my drinks smaller than a full drink as well. During the hollydays (like now) I drink about 3 drinks a week. Durring a normal week it would probably be 1 - 2 drinks.
Â
What is your philosophies around drinking and alcohol consomption?
Â
I didn't start drinking untill I was 20 years old because I didn't think the effect that alcohol had on the body was good for one self or the society. Too many people get wasted during the weekends thereby causing more harm than good. Now after watching Derrick's (and Jennifer's; yes I know you do a lot of work behind the scenes) show I've seen a new side to alcohol consumption. Alcohols has become more of an enjoyable food in my eyes rather then a "drug". I love the phrase "teaching you how to drink".
Â
Derrick, you've thought me how to drink. Thank you =)
lol
Yeah, really a good cocktail is like a good meal. You can eat too much and gain weight as well, sure it's tasty but it's not really health. Much like eating, moderation is key and if you respect the cocktail and enjoy its flavors and the experience of drinking what you created you're doing it right.
Â
If you're just looking to get wasted, there are much more efficient ways.
Good question
While I run five shows and need five cocktails to do so, I don't drink them all 100% of the time. A share a couple with Jennifer and the rest I'll pour out. Drinking five full cocktails in the afternoon or night can be a dangerous or "time limiting" affair.
Â
Other than that, I'll test them from time to time if I'm worried about the presentation or taste combination. When we did three drinks a week I tasted them all prior but tasting five, plus recording five is 10 cocktails at at time, not good :)
Â
Sometimes I'll make a smaller portion to do a quick taste. During the week, I usually don't drink anything unless I need to do some tastings of the next weeks cocktails, then I spread those out over the week.
+ new show in Jan...
+ new show in Jan...
Proud to be awesome.
Yeah, that doesn't help :)
Yeah, that's not going to help with the lack of alcohol consumption at all! I'm thinking the first episode shall be whiskey tasting, I'm still collecting some whiskey brands for that...
Hmm, lets see December:
Hmm, lets see
Â
December: 0
November: 0
October: 0
September: 0
Â
Quite a few :-)
Â
But usually, was drinking like 1-2 (always dividing measurements by 2), depending on what Derrick airs.
Proud to be awesome.
Exactly! They would just
Exactly! They would just consume all of it, said that many times :-)
Proud to be awesome.
It's a trap!
That's funny, so you started out with interest but not effort and I somehow convinced you to give it a try! I've had a few folks write in that don't even drink alcohol and watch the show just to watch it. I guess I'll just keep up with what we're doing as it seems to be working :-)
Â
So, how do you like the Sloe Gin? I'm curious as I had never had it either and now I'm a big fan.
It's ironic, because I was
It's ironic, because I was always reluctant to try it before because of the "gin" in the name. It spawned images in my brain of a stronger version of Tanqueray, which I can't even stand to smell! Which of course, couldn't be farther from the truth.
Â
I really like the dark berry flavors, and I must say that the Sloe Gin Fizz is a extremely tasty beverage! Although, I would definitely take your advice and not order one when out with the guys! Strictly Zombies and Boilermakers for me in that situation! haha
Â
Come to think of it, I actually ordered some Strawberry Daquiris at an office party not that long ago at the local Chili's restaurant, so I'm probably just full of it!! :)
Nice.
I've ordered a slow gin fizz at a bar, I did get some looks from the eight other guys I was with. Especially at a sales meeting! For those that don't know sales, people FIND reasons to poke fun at you... it's a guy thing I guess. So, you become an easy target. I just scream "shut the fuck up, I've got an internet show!"
Poland :)
hi all,
I'm Filip, the everydaydrinker (or common man cocktail fan ;) ) from Poland. I found Derrick's show few months ago while searching for good videos about making cocktails. since then I keep watching new episodes, posting comments and flooding Derrick's e-mail box with weird recipes ;)
Glad to be part of this small (but hopefully growing) community.
Â
ok, nuff about me! Derrick, Jennifer - thanks for the show, good job!
Â
Small Community
I wonder how small the viewer group of this show is. There has to be many hidden viewers watching this show, if not the world is missing out on something great!
Viewer group
Yeah, we're fairly small. I think, in total, we probably have roughly one thousand viewers or so, perhaps more that come and go. We do get a lot of one-time viewers that are looking for specific cocktails.
Â
For instance, we get about 207,000 views a month across all the different properties (mainly through 5min.com via drinksmixer.com) as seen here: http://www.tubemogul.com/marketplace/profile/Everyday-Drinkers
Â
We get about 250-300 viewers on everydaydrinkers.tv each day that watch the video's, probably something like maybe 10 that comment each day? I've not counted, perhaps we've got a few more. We also get 5 to 10 commenters on youtube as well, smaller yet different community.
Greetings :-)
Well, so I am a guy from Lithuania who discovered this show many months ago, don't really remember, there were like 0 comments back then :-)
Â
So I started spamming with comments and random thoughts via contact form... From zero to hero. I'm glad that this show is growing.
Proud to be awesome.
Zero to Hero!
Wow, nice quote, I need to use that somewhere so I can own it to, "from zero to hero." Your support and comments have been highly appreciated, even if you don't like/make all the drinks we make, it's good to know there are people out there that support you.
Â
When building a show like this you often wonder if there will be any interest or audience to watch it. And one of my favorite little web celebrities once said, "a community starts with one person" and they are correct. I know each episode will get one its first comments by "Vygantas" and it gives me something to look foward to when putting in the effort to upload, compose recipes and text every day of the week (or almost every day).
Â
Someday when the world of onlne video explodes and I get a chance to publish a book on the awesome ride from nowhere to somewhere (or "From Zero to Hero"), there will be a special mention for folks like you that got in on the ground floor and gave us a reason to keep at it. :-)
Love the show! I don't
Love the show!
I don't watch/listen to many podcasts, but I downloaded several cooking/food/wine shows to get me through a long plane flight, and six months later, this is the only one I still watch. I'm a grad student in upstate New York, so it's nice to have a nice cocktail once in a while as a break from all the (great!) Fingerlakes wine. My partner and I have been hooked on apple pucker since trying the Michael Collins Dublin Apple several months ago.
Awesome
NICE. That's awesome to know we're still on your must-listen list. I've got more audio/video podcasts than I can keep on my ipod (I have a larger ipod touch that runs out of disk space from just podcasts!)
Â
What did we do right that keeps you watching? Is the show length a big factor?
Another greeting from Norway!
Hey guys. My name is Kristoffer, and i hail from the capitol of Norway; Oslo. Where we have 6 months of winter and pay double the price for alcohol than you guys in the US!
Â
My story of finding this site is very much like everybody elses. I wanted to make some drinks with the few alcohols i had at my disposal. After spending a minuttes searching the web, i found this site. I sat for a few hours watching these videos, and then i made a shopping list and printed out some recipies, and hostet a party so i could use my friends as guenia pigs for my drinks.
Â
It was a huge success, and now everybody expects me to mix drinks at their parties. I have saved some of my favorite recipies from this site on to my iPhone so i can have them with me at other parties, which helps me a lot. These videos have really given me a huge interesst for mixing drinks, and i am buying more and more bar tools and equipment, not to mention different alcohols! This newfound hobby of mine makes me go bankrupt! Thank you, Derrick, for hosting this site. Every successfull party i have had in the last 9 months are all thanks too you. I will make a huge toast in your name at the next party here.
Â
Humble regards
Kristoffer
Wicked awesome!
That's great! I have a similar problem, once you bring the cocktails to a party they expect them every time! Not only that, they expect to be surprised every time too. So, while other people get to bring the pies, desserts, vegitables and other party additions, I'm the guy that is supposed to bring the cocktails.
Â
Nobody ever seems to care how much it costs to buy alcohol and fresh fruit for a party that serves 12+ people! Gotta start making the party hosts (yes, they ask me to bring it to THEIR parties too) pay cover charges.
John
Hey Everyone, my name is John and I'm from the great state of Michigan. I stumbled on this site because I was looking for something to do with some Captain Morgan! Let me explain:
Â
All my life, I never really drank. Never thought it was wrong -- just never interested me too much. One night last July, I got the notion that I wanted a "drink". I had no idea what, but since I see a lot of commercials on TV for Captain Morgan, I decide to make a Captain and Coke. I went to the liquor store, bought a fifth of Captain and mixed my 1.5 oz. of Captain with 6 oz. of Coke and drank it. (For the record, I thought it made the Coke taste flat, but thats not really important.)
Â
Now! since I barely used any of the Captain Morgan in my drink, I still had a whole bottle to go through! Not wanting to make about 200 more Captain and Cokes, I turned to the Internet for something new and stumbled on one of Derrick's videos embedded on a different site for the "Captain Morgan on Acid". Only problem was, I needed more alcohols to make more mixed drinks! You can only do so much with one bottle of Captain Morgan.
Â
Since then, I've been trying a lot of new things, trying to establish what I like and don't like, and going from there. It's been a fun experience and on more than one occasion, I've gone to the liquor store to get the things from one of the drinks on the website. I'm not ashamed to say I have a bottle of Tito's in my freezer!
That rocks
I've noticed a lot of people find our content by having one core problem: "What can I make with the bottle I have in hand?" and they find that there are a few drinks they can make but a few require some additional purchases. However, people aren't affraid to guy buy a pucker, sloe gin, blue curacao or whatever it takes if their shown what the end result is and how it tastes.
Â
I started with the same problem, I wanted to make a good Mai Tai and all I had was a few recipe books. Then, I wanted to know what else I could make with some of these ingredients. A mojito? A martini of some type? What then?
Â
The bar books give me 1,000 recipes but I don't know where to start. What is Galliano? What does it look like? What does it taste like? Without knowing a taste factor of a random alcohols, do I really want to go out and buy it? Imagine someone that doesn't like anise/black liquorice going out to try a new recipe from their book and find that the alcohol they just bought (galliano, sambuca, absinthe, etc.) has the taste you hate. Are you going to keep trying new recipes? Probably not.
Â
My goal, which seems to be working, is to allow people to see what else is out there by sight, design and taste and then make the decision themselves. I don't expect everyone to make every recipe we have, but by watching them they can see some of the varieties of cocktails and perhaps every few weeks a recipe pops up that they'd love to try and gather the confidence to make it happen.
Â
It's hard not to build the confidence when you see an average guy with no clue mixing a drink :)
Â
What it's All about!
This is what the show is all about! Kepp it up!
Great story!
That's just how I ended up on this site. I too didn't drink much before. It wasn't because I thought it was wrong, it just didn't appeal to me. When my girlfriend and I was in Germany this summer we tried a couple of new drinks at a bar and on the trip home we bought with us some Cachaca, Tequila, Triple Sec and Sour Apple Pucker. When we got home I found some rum and vodka in the basement and that's when I had to find some recipes. Common Man Cocktails saved the day and I've been watching the show ever since.
Cachaca - I need that
I've still got to hunt down some Cachaça! Thanks for reminding me!
Cachaça
Cachaça is great, especially in caipirinhas. I wish there where more recipes with Cachaça out there. I've seen some mixed with orange juice, pinaple juice and some types of syrup, but to me that's just a caipirinha with juice. Maybe I should do some experimenting with that, haven't used Cachaça in a while.
Hmm... Cachaça, Tripple Sec, Orange juice and Jägermeister... Maybe... I guess you could substitute Cachaça for vodka and get fantastic results with any drink =)
Hey Gang, Â I'm Cassie from
Hey Gang,
Â
I'm Cassie from Alberta, Canada I've been watching this show for a little while now and it has definitely inspired me to step outside my comfort area and try new drinks along with mixing my own. I do enjoy overly cocktails but I'm trying to branch out. I'm also on a mission to get the Caesar on this show, I won't rest until it is done!
Â
Other then that I'm a total nerd, I love music and photography.
Total Nerd
So a total nerd listens to music and takes pictures? :) I wanted to get into photography once but got so busy with other stuff I never got around to really doing it.
Â
Glad to see the helped you expand past your normal drinks and try other stuff, it's been doing that for me as well!
Dutchie
Hello! I'm Jeroen, 22 and from the Dutch fan department. I found this site around the same time i was planning to create my own hobby-blog with the same subject, and so gave me great inspiration to actually start it. Now mostly reviewing the lower budget market where noone can find any info about.
Â
As for the liquorfavorites, i'm a huge rum fan, and i like most cocktails that aren't over the top sweet/sour/bitter. Or contain insane sugar amounts (not that i'm bothered about getting diabetis...i already have it, altho that had nothing to do with sweet cocktails ^^).
Â
Other then that, i like my tropical vacations, but who doesn't. Play a little guitar, and i'm a WoW addict aswel.
Rum fan
Rum is definitely a fun little spirit. I'm glad we have a Dutch fan departement too, I love finding new departments that I didn't know existed :) Well, I know this one sorta existed from prior emails that you've sent so I guess I didn't just learn such a thing existed.
Â
Most of all, glad you started up your site. I know a few folks that are extremely talented writers that end up doing nothing with their skill. They've got creativitiy and imagination but no initiative so it's always good to find someone that has that initiative to make it happen, sometimes it's more important than the talent itself (as can be seen from our show!)
Hi Derrick My name is Luigi,
Hi Derrick
My name is Luigi, I live in Mexico and I have been following everydaydrinkers for almost a year now and have never really told you how much I enjoy your work. Your website has inspired me to try new and exiting things and now this website has become my addiction. I am a bartender here in Monterrey and its been interesting to see and learn there is much more than dosXX and tequila and that enjoying a Sam Adams or a JD is perfectly fine.
Â
Nice, Mexico represents!
Awesome, glad to have you on board and expanding your cocktail/liquor palate. I've had my share of Dos Equis and still love its german/amber style but it's a bit expensive and there are so many good brews around here so I'm always trying to find something new.
Greetings from Norway!
Hi! My name is Marius. I'm 20 years old, live here in Norway and study Business Administration at the University of Stavanger. I love all kinds of cocktails and drinks. I like to try out new drinks and even create some of my own once in a while. I don't have many favourite brands yet, but I'm into trying out new brands in search of some favourites =)
Â
Norway:
Finding new brands
I love to look for new brands and taste a little of everything, it really helps build experience and understanding of what is out there on the market.
Â
Hmm, Norway looks a whole lot cooler than New Hampshire! :)
Tourist Attractions
I bet New Hampshire has some beautiful/interessting tourist attractions as well. This picture is taken at a mountain called "Preikestolen" meaning "The Pulpit". It's a big square rock hanging 604 meters (1982 feet) over the fjord (Lysefjorden). If you're ever in Norway you should visit me here in Stavanger and I'll treat you and your wife to a hike up there =)
Â
Norway
If I'm ever in Norway I'll definitely be contacting you. When traveling abroad it's always nice to have a local there to show you around and help with language barriers. Unless I can speak English/German to the natives and be able to get around okay :)
