Not working? Let us know (we've increased the quality) - also, try the Quicktime Version
This Sunday Night Shooter is yet another Pousse-Cafe layered drink which includes a Maraschino cherry. Drown the cherry in grenadine, kahlua and Bailey's Irish Cream and you've got your Chocolate Covered Cherry recipe!

superb!
i'm not into shooters, but I knew I'd like this one. kahlua and baileys are big hits for me, always :)
I tried this shooter today, and it's bloody fantastic. it's gonna be my next party 'intro' drink - will make few of those prior to a party and serve them to guests as they come.
Â
I'd have never thought of using a cherry in a shooter, and it add so much to the presentation and coolness factor.
Definite cool factor
The shot is really a show-off style shooter with a good taste. Definitely out to impress with it :)
tasty and impressive
oh yes :) I first made it for me and my wife. Then called my mom and aunt. Then made some for my neighbours and take them when they invited us for a dinner :)
and every single person tasting it said the same thing - hey, it looks good! hey, it tastes good! :)

Alcohol with STYLE
These layered Pousse-Cafe drinks are crazy! It is amazing how different the density of each of the liquids are. Just with a little experiment you can make a work of art! Which is exactly what I am going to do tomorrow with my friends. I always love showing off your drinks to friends, as along as I can gather all of the ingredients... The blue and red drinks (Bols Blue Curacao and Sloe Gin for example) are a big hit. The presentation of crazy colors and layers push the drinks over the top! AWESOME! Now to get a shaker that does not leak... anyone else have this problem?
What type of shaker do you have?
What shaker are you using? A Boston shaker or a leaky 3-part shaker?
Â
Also, have you found any density charts? Some books have charts that will show you what will float on what, so you can make your own creations.
its got the leaks...
Well, apparently i have the SUPER LEAKY SHAKER 2000, new addition... Courtesy of a gift from a thoughtful friend without enough knowledge about quality... So, when I go buy a new shaker, what do I look for so I know it will not leak? minimum price? rubber O-ring inside? (Patent idea anyone? I call 20% of profits!!!) haha. But really, most shakers dont leak? I thought the metal on metal just lacked in the sealing compartment. Is the Boston Shaker the way to go?
I have a new homework assignment, finding those density charts, im excited! Thanks!
Boston Shaker, 3-piece shakers
I love the boston shaker, it only leaks if you don't hit it correctly. Of course, do it wrong and you can break it -- I try to do it right :) You can get a fairly decent 3-piece cocktail shaker on Amazon.com; I like the WMF shakers, they're more money but they're good quality.
Â
I'm not a huge fan of the full metal shakers because they create a great seal, so great you can't get the damn top off once the steel swells up from the cold. I have a fairly decent insulated shaker which is nice because it doesn't make your hands freeze (it's the shaker I use in the earlier videos). It has never leaked on me, so I guess I can't complain.
Â
You can also cover your shaker with a rag when you shake it to keep it from making too much of a mess. That's not a bad idea with any three piece shaker in my opinion.
Chemistry and Pousse-cafe drinks
I used to be very into chemistry when I was younger, but it never occured to me to apply that knowledge in order to make food better, let alone to create amazingly beautiful drinks.
Â
Pousse-cafe drinks are fascinating to me, not just because they end up tasting AND looking great, but because of the difference the layering effect makes on a drinker's experience.
Â
I tried this particular drink and loved it. I went a little easy on the grenadine, but it turned out fabulous.
Â
Thanks and keep it up!
Yeah, grenadine is pretty intense
One of the best things about the pousse cafe style drinks is you can really add just as much as you want, it will almost always be a cool layer. When I do it again, I'll use slightly less grenadine because it's so super sweet.
Any drink with both Baileys and Kaluha has got to be good...
It looks like you are using Kahlua Especial, I haven't tried that before.
Is it "darker" or does have a stronger coffee flavor?
Â
I really need to stock the liquor cabinet and start trying some of these recipes. :)
Kahlua Especial
The Kahlua Especial is a higher proof version of Kahlua, so it's a bit stronger and more "hardcore" and slightly higher in price.
This chocolate covered cherry
This chocolate covered cherry recipe is definitely an interesting one! It looks so delicious. I'm really looking forward to trying this :)
I've never tried Kahlua, I
I've never tried Kahlua, I think this recipe has convinced me to buy it though!
Kahlua!
If you get Kahlua, you may also want to look into a White Russian:
Â
1 oz. Kahlua
1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Cream (or Milk)
Â
This is one of my favorite stand-by drinks when I'm not in the mood to really think about it or if I'm out playing pool at the billiards.
sounds tasty
That would be a good shooter to try, we would need to get bigger shotglasses though!
Super Duper!
Nice! Â Layerd shots are always a fun time. Â I know that when I have events, they are always a hit (the Chocolate Chip is a hit too). Â After I saw you pour the shot over the spoon, I went and bought a bar spoon that is "swizzled." Â Thanks and keep it up! Â Chocolate Covered Cherry was awesome, and I can't wait for each new video!
Sweet (literally)
I think for the next two sundays we've got pousse-cafe style drinks on the agenda. Thanks for the kind comments, one of our upcoming ones will hopefully have some lemon/lime zesting too, since I went out and finally got myself a zester.
Â
Always advancing and trying to top each episode with something a bit more epic :)
wanted: Maraschino Cherries
Haha yeah I was thinking the same thing about the zoom on the pousse-cafe shooters.
Hey Derrick where do you find Maraschino cherries?? Â I went to the grocery store a few weeks ago & the guy just told me that they're not in season so they don't sell any. Â But I remember in an older episode you had a jar of them (along with the green ones), so I was just wondering where I can find those. Â Thanks!
-Sharon
Maraschino cherries are always in season :)
Maraschino cherries should always be in season if you're buying them for drinks. They're in a small jar drenched in sugary syrups :) They never go bad. Usually, you can find them next to the pre-mixed non-alcoholic cocktail mixes like stirrings mojito mix, colada mix, margarita sugars, etc.
Â
yayyy :)
Sweet! Â Got 'em (finally)! Â Thanks! :)
excellent, time to maraschino cherry yourself to success
Now you can make tons of great drinks, garnishes and use them on ice cream (which is the other purpose)
Derrick
French Kiss
Wow, that's wierd as we were going to do the French Kiss if I couldn't get the Blue-Eyed Blond to layer right (alredy tapped next sundays edition), I finally got it to layer the way I wanted with the ingredients I wanted. Perhaps NEXT next Sunday we can do the french kiss recipe we almost went with.
We have Zoom
Hey, you used the zoom on the camera! I was wondering when that was going to happen. These cafe pousse recipes need the zoom. You should make a French Kiss for the next one. I made a chocolate covered cherry right after I saw this episode.  Nice job! Keep them coming.
