Yet another 4th of July cocktail, the firecracker cocktail will get your spirits soaring. This cocktail explodes in your mouth with potency. While that's not always a favorite amongst the casual drinker, there are a good lot of people that like their cocktails with a punch.
This cocktail brings a bit of berries and a lot of explosive firecracker attacks.

Sloe Gin
From ze Wikipeeja:
Â
Sloe gin is a red coloured liqueur flavoured with sloe berries, the fruit of the blackthorn, a relative of the plum. Sloe gin has an alcohol content between 15 to 30 percent by volume (30-60 proof).
The traditional way of making sloe gin is to infuse gin with the berries. Sugar is required to ensure that the sloe juices are extracted from the fruit.

re: Sloe Gin
Yes, that's what I read but forgot during the episode then re-viewed after the show (such is life when in front of the camera I guess). It's an infused gin but you're really getting no gin properties, in my opinion, from the product as its overpowered with berries. Since gin itself is just a vodka (a "neutral gain spirit" to be more accurate) with infused junipers and at least another nine botanicals, it's really taking gin to the next next level of flavor I guess.
Looks tasty!
I really like the narrative style you use in your videos! I've been meaning to try Tito's anyway, so I may as well use this as I have all the other ingredients...
Can I use this?
I really wanna try this one. Â I am interested in the flavors. Â I don't have Cruzan at home but I DO have Appleton Estate Jamaican rum. Â Do you think that could be substituted or should I get some Cruzan? Â Is the AE Rum "dark" enough? Â I seem to see that you've been using the Cruzan a lot lately but if I could use the AE, I would.
Â
Good drink, gonna try this one today for sure!
Cruzan or Appleton Estate
Appleton Estate is a great brand, I'd suggest you use what you love. Ingredients that you love will taste best in my opinion. This drink is a big rum play, it will cut right through so if you like Appleton Estate then I'd go with it. That's especially true if that is what you have in the house.
Â
My goal is to make things cheaper for you. There is no need to go out and buy Cruzan just for one or two cocktails, if you're looking to try a different rum to compare and see what you like better than that's a different goal. For this cocktail, try it with the ingredients you have on hand. There is no risk to subsititutions, perhaps yours will be even better!
Â
I'm using a lot of Cruzan because I like the brand but, mainly, it's what I have on hand. I've purchased a few and received a few from Cruzan directly (for review) so it's easily accessible. Plus, Cruzan is all over the shelves at the store while Appleton has only one or two of their selections (if that!)
