Huntress Cocktail

Visit AwesomeDrinks.com for glassware and more!

It's bourbon Tuesday! We're starting the day off right, with a bourbon cocktail that contains a bit of vitaman D in the form of milk. What better way to pair cheerios cereal and a cocktail!? No, just kidding, but this is a bourbon based drink: it's the Huntress Cocktail.

Kentucky Bourbon

There are several great bourbons made in the state of Kentucky.  Working in Louisville, KY for the past 10 years I can tell you someone who knows and enjoys bourbon doesn't sip Jack or Beam when.....Well No One sips those.  Some very good bourbons are Buffallo Trace, Woodford, Makers, Old Forrester, Knob Creek, Bookers, Noah's Mill, Elijah Craig, Jeffersons and my favorite for sipping Eagle Rare.  There are several others, this is the beginning of the economical list.  Jim Beam has a great distillery and they take care of you on the tours, in fact some of the bourbons on my list are made at Jim Beam.

Nice list

That's a great list, I'll see what else I can find. I had a whiskey sour with Maker's tonight, it was good... not the same was Buffalo Trace, it was a bit more 'oak' and brown sugar sweet than that of a Buffalo Trace which I found to be a bit more subtle and made you hunt out flavors, wasn't so direct about "this is what we're doing."

Good just the same though. Just different.

Whiskey Sour

I must say that my favorite whiskey to use in a whiskey sour is either Maker's Mark or Wiser's De Luxe Blended Canadian Whiskey.  I do use fresh lemons and sugar though rather than sweet and sour mix and Sprite and junk.  I have yet to try the Buffalo Trace.  I'll pick that up soon!

My First Whiskey Sour!

I have over 200 recipes in my recipe book, but no Whiskey Sour! Until now! I guess it's because I've never liked the Jack Daniel's in my fridge so I've never really looked up some good whiskey drinks. I tried one today though, and it was delicious! I used the recipe here from EverydayDrinkers (Thanks, Derrick, for fine tuning the delisious factor in this recipe!). Can't wait to try one with some different types of whiskey =)

Whiskey sour

Awesome, a convert! Love it! Whiskey Sour's are awesome.

I'll try maker's mark tonight...oh wait, no lemons

I'll try to get some lemons and create a couple whiskey sours!

Glass.

Your old fashion glass is also know as a "Rocks" glass.. Thats the most used term that I have heard.. :-)

Rocks, lowball, old-fashioned

Yes, so many times for a "tiny tumbler" :) Rocks, Low Ball, Old Fashioned, it doesn't end! Of course, the old fashioned is normally cooler looking (with more fancy designs). Those don't make good for showing drinks on video though.

GI Joe shirt != Dorky

GI Joe shirt != Dorky haha

In my opinion Makers Mark is a fantastic bourbon for the price, I HIGHLY suggest you pick some up!

Maker's Mark

Just picked some up this weekend, I've yet to crack into it yet. I would have sooner except for that damn wax top....

Wax Top

I think the wax top should have a little tab sticking out that goes around the top making it easy to get off...or at least mine did.  I was going to recommend Maker's Mark, but you already got it.

I don't mind Jack Daniel's, but to me it is just more bland than Maker's Mark.  I think you should also try out Kate's favorite Wild Turkey, and Jim Beam isn't too bad for the price--though I was very disappointed with the Red Stag, it tasted like medicine to me (and not the good medicine taste like Jager...).

Oh and I vote for the Taste Test show on bourbon (once you get a few more), or at least whiskey in general. That way maybe you could explain the general differences between bourbon, Irish, and Canadian?

Bourbon collection

Let me build my collection of bourbon and see what I can do. Personally, I liked the red stag as a variant to standard whiskey, but it definitely isn't the same as a normal typical whiskey.

There is a pull tab, I noticed, on the Maker's Mark but I forgot about it after I put it away. I noticed it as I was putting it on my shelf and thought "wow, so creative of an idea." How creative...I forgot it was there a day later :-)

Buffalo Trace, a good bourbon?

I'm thinking about buying some bourbon. Would you recomend the Buffalo Trace? Is it worth the extra money? I'm not a big whiskey drinker, but I've only tasted the Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey, so I might like some other brands of whiskey. How big is the difference between the Buffalo Trace and the Jack Daniel's?

JD or Buffalo Trace

That's a good question for which I don't have an immediate answer because I really like Buffalo Trace. Last time I tried JD I couldn't stand it, but that was back in 1998 or so... it's been awhile. I've definitely not tried them side-by-side but my wife is a big fan of Buffalo Trace, it turned her on to Whiskey, which blew my mind. She's not big into those style of spirits and now she'd rather have a whiskey sour with buffalo trace than most other cocktails.

That settles the case!

Buffalo Trace sounds like a delicious spirit. I'll have to buy a bottle next time I get the chance. For me the Jack Daniel's has too much of a varnish aroma to it. It would be great to see you and your wife do a whiskey tasting episode or two! You might not have that many types of whiskey, but if you do: Go for it!

By the way: I love the dorky shirt concept, though the shirt could have been even dorkier!

Buffalo Trace

Unfortunately, I can't get buffalo trace up here, hopefully sometime soon. I'll have to find a place on the Net to buy it.

I'll work on the dorky shirt issue :)
